The Role of Translation in ISIS Propaganda: International Online Radicalization Methods and Its Effect on Extremism in Indonesia

This research aims to compile data and information that will contribute understanding the online radicalization phenomenon through translation. There are many studies on using internet propaganda in a terrorism context. However, only handful studied correlation between translation propaganda, especially Indonesia. was little discussion role of bridging communication different nations, cultures, languages it propagate radical/propaganda narratives worldwide amplify those messages its target audience. The method is descriptive qualitative primary secondary data; sample taken from book Nadharat Fi Al Ijma' Qath'i previous findings news. revealed at least ten roles phenomenon; among others, language can be used identify audience propagandist, terrorist sympathizers were willing volunteer translate propaganda. although leverage spread also assist law enforcement officers combating terrorist/propaganda narratives. Indonesian may use counter-terrorism as Indonesia has hundreds vernacular 'encrypt' disseminate their extremist narratives.
